IN-DEPTH EXPERIENCES
The village of Repen is one of the pillars of »Sloveneness« beyond the borders of the homeland. The center of the events is the »Kraška« Karst house, which (in addition to many other events) also hosts the traditional wedding »Kraška ohcet«, where up to a thousand or more visitors dressed in national costumes gather each time. However, the beautiful celebration is not the only one that adorns Repen and the surrounding area. Not far from the village, visitors struck by the monumentality of the Repen rocks. Near the village there are many quarries, as Repen limestone, like Nabrežina one, is known and used all over the world. Above the village, the karst plateau folds into hills, among which stand out Volnik and on the eastern side, the Tabor hill, a former hillfort and today the religious center of Christianity, where the couples from the »Kraška ohcet« are getting married. If we add to this the Path of Poets – a promenade at the foot of Tabor, the contours of a beautiful hiking day can be drawn.
For the participants of the trip, who will arrive at the starting point of the route by car, there will be a parking space next to the Repen cemetery. Others, who are happy to come to the hike sustainably by train, will be transported from the railway station in Sežana to the starting point by van.

Tour description:
From the starting point at the Repen cemetery, we will first go to the Repen rocks and enjoy their beauty. Further, the route will lead us past Debela Griža and areas where there were many quarries in the past, some of which have been preserved to this day. We will start climbing right before the village of Zagradec and the climb will continue all the way to the top of Volnik. With an altitude of 544 meters above sea level, it is a vantage point from where you can see all four sides of the sky. If a tree obscures the view, you can also climb a smaller observation tower.
On the descent back to the village of Repen, we will pass the prehistoric settlement of Njivice, too. On the way back to the village of Repen the path will lead us all the way through a pleasant forest. There we will visit the Kraška (karst) House – an example of traditional Karst architecture, which the locals have rearranged in an exemplary manner and turned into an ethnographic museum.
In the village of Repen, the locals have many tourist farms, too, with a wide range of karst specialties. With a bit of luck at least one will be open.
We will continue our journey along the path to the top of the hill Tabor, where one of the most important pilgrimage churches in the Karst is located on the site of a prehistoric settlement – the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The platform at the top of the hill there are wonderful views in all directions.
After visiting the church, we will descend by the ancient stairs to the path that leads at the foot of the hill and along which the locals have arranged the Path of the poets, with their busts and resting places. From the end of the route, it will be only a few steps to our starting point…
